The final Women in Leadership event of 2024 takes place on 16th October. We’re delighted to host Averil Power, CEO with the Irish Cancer Society as our guest speaker. She currently leads one of the best known patient advocacy groups in the country, having previously held the role of CEO in the Asthma Society. Prior patient advocacy, Averil was heavily involved in politics, having been employed as a political adviser by Minister Mary Hanafin in the Departments of Tourism, Social and Family Affairs and Education. Averil was subsequently appointed directly to the Fianna Fáil Front Bench by Micheál Martin in 2011, breaking the convention that members of the Front Bench hold elected office. She became an elected Senator later that year, and remained as a member of the Seanad until 2016.
Averil’s passions include education, social justice, mental health and LGBT equality. She was awarded a GALA for ‘Politician of the Year’ by the National LGBT Federation in 2014. She also produced policy papers on youth mental health and increasing female representation in politics.
Please note that this series is not a women only event!
All members are most welcome to these inspiring and thought provoking leadership events.
