The PMI’s Annual Pharma Summit returns to Croke Park on Thursday 3rd April, 2025.  This must-attend event will showcase a diverse range of industry and subject experts under the general theme of “evolving through change”.  This is the flagship event in the PMI’s calendar with over 300 attendees from across the industry along with a host of exhibitors.  It provides an excellent platform to learn, connect and grow!  
 

Speakers: 

Professor Kingston Mills – Professor of Experimental Immunology and Director of Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute at Trinity College Dublin 

Kingston qualified from TCD with a BA(Mod) in Biochemistry and PhD in Immunology. He trained at as a Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London and the MRC National Institute for Medical Research, London. He was lecturer, Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Maynooth University. He was appointed to a Personal Chair at TCD in 2001 and was Head of the School of Biochemistry and Immunology from 2008-2011. His research is the discipline of immunology, where his interests are on the role of T cells in infection and autoimmune diseases. He is lead investigator on the COVID-19 Research Hub at TCD. He is a co-founder of three University spin-out companies, Opsona Therapeutics, TriMod Therapeutics and Parvalis Therapeutics. He received the Science Foundation Ireland Researcher of the year award in 2020.

 

Fionnuala King – Chief Pharmacist at HSE 

As Chief Pharmacist for the Acute Hospital Drug Management Programme, Fionnuala provides leadership and strategic direction for a team whose work has provided enormous support to acute hospital pharmacy departments.

Dr Roisin Adams – Head of HTA Strategy and External Engagement at NCPE 

Roisin led the HTA team for a number of years before being seconded to the HSE to lead a new unit tasked with overseeing and managing high cost drugs in acute hospitals. She is the elected Chair of the Health Technology Assessment Coordination Group which is the governance body responsible for the EU HTA Regulation.  Roisin also co- chairs the HTA domain of the BeNeLuxA initiative and is a Director on the Board of the International Horizon Scanning Initiative. She has been awarded a number of grants from the Health Research Board to examine health preferences in Ireland. Her areas of interest include methods for preference elicitation, combining different data for evidence synthesis and reimbursement mechanisms for high cost drugs. Roisin has held advisory positions for Department of Health, the Health Information and Quality Authority and policy direction at EU level.

 

Gary Keegan – CEO & Founder at Uppercut 

Gary is the leading high performance advisor for business and sport across a diverse range of industries and sporting associations globally.  He is currently the Performance Coach to Ireland’s Senior Men’s Rugby team and the Cork Senior Men’s Hurling team.

Panel Discussion: 

Joanne Kissane – Registrar and Chief Officer at the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI)

Joanne took up the role as registrar and Chief Officer of the PSI in January 2023.  Previously she was the Director and National Coordinator for APPEL (Affiliation for Pharmacy Practice Experiential Learning), a joint office of the three Schools of Pharmacy in Ireland which manages the student experiential learning placements for the integrated Masters degree programmes in pharmacy. Joanne has worked in community pharmacy as a practising pharmacist and for seven years, was the superintendent pharmacist followed by the Head of Operational Excellence for the Lloyds Pharmacy group.

 

Dr Pat O’Mahony – Chair IMVO, HIQA and Taskforce supporting Expansion of Role of Pharmacy

Pat provides strategic management consultancy to selected clients across various sectors including Biopharmaceuticals, Med Tech and Health Care Systems.  Particular interests at present include Value Based Healthcare, Clinical Research and Genomics.    
Pat is also Chairman of the Board of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and Chairman of the Board of the Irish Medicines Verification Organisation (IMVO).   Pat was appointed Chair of the Ministerial Expert Taskforce to Support the Expansion of the Role of Pharmacy in 2023. 

 

Denis O’Driscoll – Superintendent Pharmacist at LloydsPharmacy Ireland part of the Phoenix Group

Denis has 26 years’ experience in pharmacy, including 22 years with HSE Addiction Services as Chief Pharmacist. After spending most of his career as an addiction expert, Denis moved to the role of superintendent pharmacist for LloydsPharmacy Ireland in 2018.
As the Superintendent Pharmacist with LloydsPharmacy, Denis is the clinical lead for one of the largest pharmacy chains in Ireland, with 85 pharmacies, and is responsible for the management and delivery of quality pharmacy services to the public. He is also the voluntary independent chair of the Naloxone Advisory Group for the HSE Strategy on Overdose Prevention. Denis is a graduate of pharmacy from Trinity College Dublin and has a PhD in Biopharmaceutics (TCD) and is Vice President of the PSI Council.
