Community pharmacy is undergoing significant transformation, with the pharmacist’s role expanding across several key areas. The recently launched Common Conditions Service marks a policy shift towards an enhanced role for community pharmacy in supporting improved access to care.
This Stakeholder Briefing will explore developments across community pharmacy including:
- Vaccination rollout in pharmacy
- Shared care records
- ePrescriptions
- CPA 25 developments
- Introduction of Common Conditions services
There will also be an opportunity for questions from the floor.

Susan O’Dwyer, Head of Professional Services – Irish Pharmacy Union
Susan is a pharmacist and healthcare professional who currently serves as Head of Professional Services at the Irish Pharmacy Union. In this role, she is responsible for the development and promotion of pharmacy services in Ireland and for supporting IPU members on legal, clinical, professional, and fitness-to-practise issues. She is the lead for CCS within the IPU and sits on the various consulting boards within the HSE.
Susan qualified as a pharmacist in 2002 and has since held a range of roles across community pharmacy practice, professional support, and research. Her work focuses on strengthening the role of community pharmacists in delivering clinical services and improving patient access to care. She has also been involved in policy and professional initiatives to expand pharmacy services, such as programmes enabling pharmacists to treat common conditions in community pharmacies.
Alongside her professional leadership role, Susan has contributed to pharmacy practice research, including studies on medication adherence, inhaler technique, and the role of community pharmacists in patient care.
