Speakers:
Shane Ryan, General Manager with Takeda and President of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association
Shane Ryan is the General Manager of Takeda in Ireland, a position he has held for over six years. Under his leadership, Takeda Ireland was recognised as Life Science Company of the Year in 2024. Shane has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. Shane is a leader within the life science industry and committed to representing the Irish biopharmaceutical sector. To this end, Shane has been Vice President of IPHA for the past two years, and prior to this was a Director on the Board. Shane is also committed to ensuring the sector represents the diversity of the individuals, carers and clinicians that it serves and continuously volunteers his time to lead initiatives which drive this goal both externally and internally within Takeda. Shane also took up the position as President of IPHA (Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association) in September 2024.
Clare Fitzell, Secretary General – IPU (Irish Pharmacy Union)
Clare is a pharmacist with over 25 years of experience in community-based practice. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, she has served both as a community pharmacist and a community pharmacy manager. Throughout her diverse career, Clare has undertaken a wide array of roles, gaining extensive experience in pharmacy service delivery, regulatory affairs, and quality management in pharmacy practice. She was previously the Head of Strategic Policy at IPU before recently taking up the role of Secretary General.
Ronan Mahon, Economics Lecturer & Programme Director – University of Galway
Ronan is a Lecturer Above the Bar in the Discipline of Economics at University of Galway. He is currently Programme Director for the MSc in Health Economics. His research focuses primarily on Health Economic Evaluation. He is a member of the National Screening Advisory Committee of Ireland and a member of the Health Economics Association of Ireland Executive Committee.
Ronan holds a PhD from the University of York and previously worked for Novartis as Head of Value and Access.

Ian Collins – Tax Partner and Head of Innovation incentives
Ian is a Tax Partner with EY Ireland and heads the R&D team within the tax department. He focuses on the overall management and quality assurance of Irish R&D tax claims.
As the head of the R&D team, Ian secured the first Irish Revenue pre-approval for a client in the software sector, encompassing a technical review by an industry expert engaged by the Irish Revenue.
He also supports continued learning with R&D, conducting training seminars and workshops on R&D eligibility and claim process on a regular basis. Besides this, he lectures extensively on the R&D regime and published scholarly articles. Ian earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University College Dublin. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and the Irish Taxation Institute.

Ivan Yates – MC

Ivan Yates is a Radio and TV broadcaster, Businessman, Company Director, Former Politician as well as Author and Columnist. Ivan presented ‘The Hard Shoulder’ on Newstalk weeknights. He also presented ‘The Tonight Show’ on Virgin Media with Matt Cooper and current presents political podcast ‘Path to Power’ with co-host Matt Cooper.
Ivan was elected a Fine Gael TD for the Wexford constituency at the 1981 general election and eight subsequent elections until his retirement from politics in 2002. He was a member of Wexford County Council for over two decades and a senior member of the FG front bench from 1988-2001. He served as Minister for Agriculture Food and Forestry from 1994 to 1997.
